Launch date announced for The Oracles of Troy

I know it’s been slow in coming (just over three years since The Armour of Achilles), but I am proud, excited and slightly nervous to announce that The Oracles of Troy will be launched as an e-book on Friday 25th October 2013. It’s been edited, copy-edited and proof-read several times, converted into mobi and e-pub formats and finished off with what I believe is a superb cover. A lot of hard work has gone into the book and I hope fans of the series will enjoy it as much as the first three. From the comments I’ve had so far, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

If you haven’t already seen it, please have a look at the book page here to preview the cover and read a short summary. I’ve also included the first chapter as a free extract to whet your appetite. If you have any comments on the cover or the opening chapter, I’d really love to hear from you. Please Leave a Comment using the space below and I’ll try to respond as quickly as I can.

Finally, a few well-deserved thanks:

  • To my wife, Jane, for her support, enthusiasm, proof-reading skills and the occasional well-timed cup of tea
  • To Steven A. McKay, author of Wolf’s Head, for his generous encouragement and help
  • To Rob Low, author of The Kingdom series, for a fantastic endorsement
  • To Richard Sheehan for his superb editing skills
  • To Justine Elliott for designing such an eye-catching cover
  • To Matthew Stapleford at Firebubble for creating the website and being patient with my technophobia
  • To Steve Baker at EBooks by Design for sorting out the conversion to an e-book and putting up with my constant fussing
  • To Kevin Marlow, Maureen Corderoy and Bruce Villas for being such keen proof-readers
  • And to those readers who have been patiently waiting for the next installment in Odysseus and Eperitus’s adventures – not long to wait now!

Best of luck with it, Glyn. It really is another cracker – if anyone enjoyed the previous books they will love this one too. Make sure you all buy it on the 25th!

I just finished yesterday “The armor of Achilles” and was absolutely delighted to find out that the next book is going to appear soon. However, given the fact that I read all 3 books in less than three months, it will be a long wait for me for the books 5 and 6. I hope you won’t finish your series with Odysseus coming home to Ithaca but continue further, giving your version of the lesser known tradition of Odysseus leaving Ithaca after a few years with “oar on his shoulder”.

Your books are absolutely fantastic, my only wish that you write faster 🙂

      Hi Marina
Thanks for your kind comments. There are several myths about Odysseus after he returns home to Ithaca. One includes his son by Circe, who tracks Odysseus to Ithaca and kills him! I might be able to cover a couple of these as short stories or novellas, but that’s a way off yet. I will have my hands full for the next year or so with the fifth book in the series (which I will start writing on Monday).
      Best wishes,
      Glyn
PS I like your avatar – Apollo pouring a libation. Great choice – I have a replica on my bedroom windowsill at home.

    Hi Glyn
I have tried to download this long awaited ebook today from Amazon but it does not seem to be available. Have there been any problems with the process that you know of?

      Hi Luke
Thanks for asking. This was loaded up to Amazon yesterday (around 10pm GMT) knowing there would be a delay of a few hours. I’ve been checking all day and it’s only just come up on Amazon UK and US! One reason you might not find it is that it’s not yet on my author’s page. This is because Amazon have to contact my previous publisher to verify I’m the same author, which can take up to seven days. However, if you look up “Glyn Iliffe” on either Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com you should now be able to find it. As for non-Kindle e-books, Kobo have stated it will take up to 48 hours. Others sites such as Barnes & Noble or Waterstones will take a little longer.
If you enjoy the book, please leave some feedback on Amazon. It’s amazing how much difference feedback makes.
      Best wishes,
      Glyn

    Hi Glyn
Any chance of this book coming out in Hardback??

      Hi Andy
Almost certainly not hardback, I’m afraid, but definitely in paperback. It’s a shame as I love HBs, but it looks too expensive. I’ll look into it a bit more as a very limited run, though.
      Thanks for asking.

Thoroughly enjoyed the books, love the take on the myth/history. Any clue when the book will be out in paperback form? I read the first 3 in about a month.

Hi Dave. Nice to know you’ve enjoyed the books so far. I’m hoping to have some news in the next couple of weeks about what I’m doing for a print version. It’s unlikely to be before Christmas though. Sorry to keep you waiting, but I hope it’ll be worth it.
      Best wishes,

      Hi Luke
Read it already?!? Well done, you’re a much quicker reader than I am. I’m happy you’ve enjoyed it, but unfortunately it’ll be at least a year for the next installment – I’m only on Chapter 4!
      Best wishes,
      Glyn
PS If you have a spare moment, I would really appreciate any feedback you could leave on Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com. Thanks.

Hate reading eBooks, so I will have to wait for the paperback form. But doesn’t mind that it will still take a while. Now I can reread the first three books to fully prepare for the fourth.

      Hi Saleh
Try this link for Amazon.com and this for Amazon.co.uk. I’m definitely planning a paperback (and a hardback) version and am currently looking at funding this. Check my most recent blogs for more information.
      Best wishes,
      Glyn
