Kickstarter campaign kicks off!

e-book

As previous visitors to this site will know, I’ve been planning a crowdfunding campaign to finance the publication of The Oracles of Troy. I’m glad to say the campaign has now been launched and can be viewed here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1082128542/the-oracles-of-troy.

For anyone who isn’t familiar with the concept crowdfunding, it’s a way of raising support for a creative project by asking sponsors to pledge small amounts of money towards a target amount. In return, sponsors receive “rewards” – usually a copy of the book, CD, film etc being produced. If enough pledges are made to meet the target before the campaign ends, the money is taken and passed to the campaign organiser (in this case me) who then goes ahead with the project. If the target isn’t met, then no money is taken and project dies an ignominious death.

all 4 paperbacks

To print, market and distribute 1000 paperbacks and 250 hardbacks – with associated costs – will require £5,500. I’ve given the campaign 31 days to run, ending on Sunday 2nd March. Full details are available on the campaign page, including a list of rewards.

If you’d like a copy of the book (or one of the other rewards on offer) or just want to help me make this possible, please visit the campaign page and make a pledge.

Absolutely gutted for you and and everyone(including myself) who donated to the project. Its a shame we were so close to getting it printed.
Could you start a new kickstarter campaign with a smaller amount, equal to what has been donated, and make a smaller run of hardbacks? Just an idea!
Itll be such a shame if the new books dont get printed. Digital’s alright but its not paper!

      Hi Steven
I’m considering a new KS campaign with a lower target amount. I’d have to cut out the hardback option to reduce the cost, but on the upside I’ve received a much improved quote from another publisher so can aim lower. Other options include saving my pennies until I reach the amount I need (I’m not too far off the new quote and I’m expecting my half-yearly payment from Pan Macmillan next month) or using the Print on Demand option. With the latter I can print as many or as few as I like, but as they’re only available online through Amazon, and not in bookshops, it restricts the audience a bit; ideally, if I can get copies in bookshops I might be able to reconnect with the 17000 readers of The Armour of Achilles. Either way, we’ll work something out.
      Thanks for your support!
